Mitchell Park Domes

Milwaukee, WI

The Mitchell Park Domes feature one acre under glass in three domes– the world’s only conoidal (not geodesic) glass houses which provide a better angle for solar heating and more height for tall trees. The Domes opened in the 1960s and were dedicated by First Lady, Mrs. Ladybird Johnson. This is another winner in Milwaukee– also run by their impressive parks department.

It was POURING while we were here and, amusingly, it was also raining inside. Apparently, the domes aren’t water-tight. It just added to the rainforesty feel of the tropical dome! Jeff says these are the epi-dome-ee of conservatories.
