You can buy these false bottoms for your flower pots to reduce weight and the cost (of the potting soil) and improve drainage, OR you can fill the bottom of your pots with empty plastic bottles. We start collecting them at the end of winter before we want to fill up our flower pots. Save the lid, don’t squeeze out the air, and fill the bottom of the pot with bottles appropriate to the pot size. Put potting soil over the top and plant! At the end of the season, you can recycle the plastic containers when you put your pots away– instead of storing purchased false bottoms.
